Summarized Minutes

The MECC Executive Committee held its periodic meeting in Mar Murcos Center, Nasr City,Cairo.  H.H. Pope Shenouda III, hosted the meeting. The Executive Committee indulged in the study of the following items that were on the meeting's agenda:

  1. Minutes of the Committee's last meeting. Discussion and approval.

 

  1. General Secretary's report. Participants had read the report presented to them by the General Secretary, Mr. Guirguis Ibrahim Saleh. The report covers work and activities, in fields of interest by MECC, carried out by MECC committees in various countries where the Council is active. They approved the contents of the report after making their comments.

 

  1. The financial Report

a.       Members of the Executive Committee read the financial report presented to them by the Finance Committee. The Un-Audited Financial Statements for the year 2006 was presented to them in details by Ms. Vivian Lorenzo. They discussed the contents of this report, expressed their comments and they approved it. The executive Committee decided for the Finance and Administration Committee to continue in its work as commissioned by the Executive Committee.

    1. The Executive Committee elected Miss Vivian Lorenzo as Finance 

Secretary as of March 1, 2007.

 

  1. The Forthcoming General Assembly.

After studying the subject, the participants decided:

a.       The forthcoming General Assembly will be held in Cyprus from 26-30 November 2007.

b.      A preparatory committee was formed from representatives of the four  Families of Churches, members of the Council. The Committee Members are: H.E. Anba Bishoy, H.E. Archmandrite Innokentios Exarchos, Rev. Adib Awad and Maitre Ibrahim Traboulsi.This committee will work in collaboration with the Council's General Secretariat to prepare for the forthcoming General Assembly. The Preparatory Committee will present its work to the Council's Presidents for approval. The Committee's work include choosing the subject and logo for the forthcoming General Assembly.

  

  1. A proposed plan for MECC structure and programs for the coming period.

Participants studied a new vision presented in a plan proposed by the General Secretariat. The proposed plan includes a reorganization of the departments and committees in the Council with the aim of increasing the effectiveness of their activities, and a unification of the administration of some of these departments and committees in order to reduce the administrative expenses.

 

Participants commissioned the Preparatory Committee for the forthcoming General Assembly and the General Secretariat to work out a plan that takes the comments by the Executive Committee members into consideration, and to have this plan in final before May 2007 and to obtain the MECC Presidents' approval of it in order to present it to the donors and partners.

 

  1. Participants listened to the ICNDR report, discussed the organization proposed by this agency in order to develop its work and render it more efficient, to be   up to the expectations of the donors. They asked to form a committee for that     matter. The Committee was formed of: H.E. Bishop George Saliba, Rev. Dr. Salim Sahiouny, H.E. Bishop Boulos Matar and  H.G. Bishop Louka Habib Khoury .

 

  1. a. Participants discussed the disastrous situations prevailing in Iraq, Palestine and Lebanon. They reviewed the Council's intervention via its departments   and committees to alleviate the people's sufferings in these countries, and they  insisted on the continuation of these services despite the difficult    circumstances and the limited resources.

 

The Executive Committee members called upon those in responsible positions from all categories and sides to work for reducing and ending this suffering by all available means. They raised their prayers to the Almighty and Merciful God to look towards those counties and bring about peace and justice.

 

      b. Participants insisted on the continuation with the ecumenical dialogue and 

      the Christian-Muslim dialogue. They put an emphasis on the living together

      and the collaboration to serve the human being in the countries where their

      Council works and in all the Arab Countries.
